We Democrats are generally pretty happy as we see the new day beginning on the 20^th of January.  The national election results were great for both Arizona and the country as a whole.  The results at the county and state were much less satisfying – God’s way of telling us that we must not relax as there is still much work to be done.  We have proven that “yes, we can” is not an idle slogan – in two years, “yes, we will”.

It looks like Arizona has been asked to sacrifice for the rest of the country, as Janet Napolitano joined the Obama administration as Director of Homeland Security.  An incumbent Republican Governor in 2010 may make our job easier, but, the necessity of success much more critical.

My hope for the next two years is that we can increase our party’s membership, enthusiasm and influence in District 4.  We must do this by bringing in the young and old, the rich and poor, the short and tall, and so on --- those “people” referred to in the preamble to our Constitution.  We have had good candidates in the past – our job now is to elect good candidates in 2010.
